The Opportunity at USAA: Bank Credit Risk Analyst

USAA offers an exciting opportunity to join their team as a dedicated Bank Credit Risk Analyst. This role is crucial to the organization’s operations as it involves using quantitative methods to identify credit risk, develop and deliver credit strategies, and monitor credit performance for consumer credit portfolios. The aim is to optimize profitable growth within the confines of risk appetite and mitigate operational and compliance risk inherent in the credit strategy.

The role also involves tracking and monitoring internal and external factors impacting credit strategy performance for bank portfolio products. The position is based in San Antonio, TX, and involves being in the office four days per week. Unfortunately, USAA does not provide relocation assistance for this position.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Bank Credit Risk Analyst is expected to apply industry-leading practices and analytical skills to identify risks and opportunities within the managed portfolio, translating these results into strategic solutions. This requires applying critical thinking skills to synthesize analyses, identify root causes, and develop clear and concise recommendations to drive credit risk strategy development and influence senior decision makers. The Analyst will also assist in delivering Bank credit risk strategies across lines of defense by effectively driving analytical projects through analysis of data and processes and clearly communicating insights/recommendations to key stakeholders and leadership.

The role involves developing industry knowledge and competitive benchmarking to inform credit strategy development and utilizing quantitative analysis based upon internal and external data sources to solve analytical projects. The Analyst will aid in developing, managing, and presenting comprehensive risk and financial reporting in support of senior management and committee oversight of existing and emerging risks, escalating the quality and direction of credit performance to appropriate levels of management.

Qualifications and Skills

Prospective candidates for the Bank Credit Risk Analyst position should have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or any other quantitative field. Alternatively, four years of relevant education and/or experience would suffice. Ideally, candidates should have two years of experience in an analytical field or work focused on leading analytical projects, advanced analytics, and risk assessments. An advanced degree in Business Management, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or other quantitative discipline would be a plus.

Candidates should have a developing understanding of banking regulations, risk, and compliance, solid presentation and communication skills, good business acumen and attention to detail and accuracy, and solid research and investigation skills. Knowledge of current analytical coding languages, such as SAS, SQL, or Python, as well as Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is required. Knowledge of federal laws, rules, regulations, and applicable guidance, including FCRA, Reg B, UDAAP/UDAP, OCC Heightened Standards, and OCC CREDIT RISK GUIDANCE, is expected.

The salary range for this position is $77,120 – $138,810. Please note, USAA does not provide visa sponsorship for this role, and candidates requiring immigration support in the future should not apply.
