The Role of a Banking Advisor at Northern Trust
In the dynamic world of Northern Trust, a Banking Advisor plays a critical role. They are tasked with developing new banking relationships, expanding existing client relationships, and managing complex credit and deposit solutions for individuals, corporations, and partnerships. The Banking Advisor acts as a primary contact point for senior client stakeholders, delivering high-quality banking, credit, and treasury management services. They work in close collaboration with internal partners across the Bank to enhance client profitability, improve cash flow, and ensure coordinated, responsive service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
A Banking Advisor at Northern Trust is expected to wear multiple hats. Their primary responsibilities include developing new client relationships, managing complex wealth management banking relationships, and applying deep knowledge of credit policy, banking products, and risk management principles when advising and servicing clients. They are also expected to self-source new relationships, structure and negotiate complex loan and/or lease agreements, analyze and negotiate loan terms, and advise clients on Goals Driven Wealth Management.
What Does It Take to Be Successful?
To excel in this role, a Banking Advisor should possess advanced knowledge of the banking industry, the competitive landscape, and financing solutions. They should also have a working knowledge of investments, trust, and financial consulting concepts to identify cross-selling opportunities. Strong negotiation, leadership, and sales skills are essential, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. A high degree of flexibility and adaptability to change, and in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge of the banking discipline is a must. Typically, 3 years of experience in financial analysis and client servicing, commercial lending, or leasing is required.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this role is between $137,400 and $233,600 USD. Northern Trust also provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes retirement benefits, health and welfare benefits, paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also offers a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
