Understanding the Job Description
The Consumer & Community Banking Capital Markets – Portfolio team manages a balance sheet of approximately $500B of assets across Residential, Auto, and Commercial Real Estate. The team oversees a wide range of operations including the full loan lifecycle, product development, originations, hedging, asset-liability management, servicing strategy, and exit execution through loan sales and securitization. The team has a leading presence in the market with over $70B of loan trading activity.
As a Mortgage Loan Trader – Vice President, you will be primarily focused on Commercial Real Estate, while also playing an active role in residential mortgage trading and securitization. The role involves structuring transactions, developing execution strategies, and managing portfolio positioning across various risks. This is a newly created role that supports the growth of the residential securitization platform and helps build out Commercial Real Estate trading and portfolio capabilities.
Delving into the Job Responsibilities
The role entails a wide range of responsibilities. These include evaluating and executing Commercial Real Estate and residential mortgage loan trading opportunities, identifying relative value opportunities, developing relative value views to support distribution, marketing, and execution outcomes, and partnering with sales and correspondent/origination channels to source loan volume.
The Mortgage Loan Trader – Vice President is also responsible for providing input into loan pricing and rate sheet strategy for origination, supporting the structuring and execution of securitizations and capital markets transactions, analyzing collateral, cash flows, and structural features, and developing and implementing hedging strategies for loan pipelines and inventory using appropriate market instruments.
Qualifications, Skills, and Capabilities Required
The ideal candidate should have at least five years of experience in Commercial Real Estate and/or Residential Mortgage finance, trading, or structured products. Commercial Real Estate capital markets or trading experience is essential, along with structuring experience across CRE and/or Residential mortgage transactions. A deep understanding of CRE and/or Residential mortgage credit, capital structures, and market dynamics is also required.
Other essential skills include strong financial modeling skills, the ability to perform relative value analysis, a commercial mindset, and strong communication skills. The ability to originate ideas, source opportunities, and drive execution is also crucial for this role.
