Former UBS Employees Joining Standard Chartered
People who have worked together in the past often find themselves working together in the future. This trend is evident at RBC, where a group of ex-credit traders from Citi are now congregating.
Citi’s credit defectors are not the only group of former colleagues making moves in the London market. Standard Chartered has also formed a cluster of former UBS employees. At least six electronic FX professionals from UBS have recently joined Standard Chartered.
This influx of talent from UBS to Standard Chartered may be attributed to key hires made by the latter. John Newman, who joined Standard Chartered as the global head of FX and rates trading last August, was followed by Chris Aspinall, who came on board as the head of eFX trading for the Americas. Robin Hutchings, formerly of UBS, also joined Standard Chartered as the global head of quantitative development, bringing along two members of his team, Nikolaos Katsanos and Charles Exley. In May, John Luke, an eFX quant developer from UBS, also made the move to Standard Chartered.
While the hiring spree has raised some eyebrows, with unconfirmed reports suggesting UBS may be displeased with the situation, both UBS and Standard Chartered have declined to comment on the matter.
