The Opportunity at USAA

One of the exciting roles at USAA is that of a Bank Credit Risk Lead Analyst. In this position, the analyst uses advanced analytics to identify and quantify emerging and non-traditional risks. They translate complex, forward-looking signals, such as macroeconomic, policy, and industry shifts, into actionable strategies that optimize portfolio performance within risk appetite. This role involves cross-functional partnerships to monitor evolving risk dynamics, inform strategic decision-making, and ensure effective mitigation of operational and compliance risks.

Flexibility is key at USAA, with the company offering a work environment that requires being in the office only four days per week. This role can be based in several locations including San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL. However, it’s important to note that relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Role Responsibilities

The Bank Credit Risk Lead Analyst has a variety of responsibilities, all aimed at managing risk and optimizing portfolio performance. They leverage industry practices and analytical skills to identify risks and opportunities within the managed portfolio and translate these results into strategic solutions. They lead analyses, identify root causes, and develop clear and concise recommendations to drive credit risk strategy development and influence senior decision makers. They also lead the analysis of internal and external scores/data for use in identifying first-party fraud.

Moreover, they are responsible for the development, management, and presentation of comprehensive risk and financial reporting in support of senior management and committee oversight of existing and emerging risks. They also apply expert programming and analytical techniques to analyze credit data and provide thought leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members regarding analytics and risk management.

Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this role, candidates need to have a Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of relevant education and/or experience. They should also have a strong understanding of banking regulations, risk, and/or compliance and advanced knowledge of data analysis tools.

Additionally, they should have experience influencing cross-functional stakeholders to action by communicating complex analytical insights and risk mitigating solutions. They should also have experience coaching and guiding peers on analytics, and/or risk management, and have an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
